Bailey Brewing is a new brewing company located in the Perth foothills. The 9-and-a-half-acre venue features a 250-capacity tavern, restaurant, nature playground and state-of-the-art brewery that includes six floor-to-ceiling serving tanks, each holding 1,200L. All up, the site will have capacity to craft 200,000L annually.
The energy consumption of the brewery had outgrown their requirements, Bailey Brewing had initially wished to use renewable energy to supplement their power consumption, however they ran into a problem that is common for the area when using Solar Power.
A local major utilities company requested that Bailey Brewing reduce their consumption of power due to overloading the grid in time of max consumption.
Bailey Brewing approached Magellan Power and tasked us with a solution to this issue.
The Magellan solution to this issue included installing a generator on-site with the purpose being whenever the power consumption dropped, the generator can be turned on and take over the load. However, the brewery also wanted to include Solar Power to reduce their overall consumption.
The team at Magellan Power recitfied this issue with the result being beneficial to both Bailey Brewing and the utility company. The main issue to cover was if the breweries power load is less than the solar system can generate, when running on the generator the load is taking less power than the solar power system is generating. When the entire system is relying on the generator, there is reverse flow of power which can then cause problems for the generator system.
Further works by Magellan Power to rectify this issue resulted in developing a 'Control' to detect if this situation will occur and, if so, will command the Inverter to reduce the power generated by the Solar System, resulting in no excess power available / able to back feed into the generator.
