The unit has a light, compact and portable design and combines an advanced, reliable battery charger and light weight, high efficiency Lithium batteries.
The charger operates from a 240VAC input, providing dual uninterruptible 110V/20A and 24V/25A or 48V/25A DC power.
The unit is to be kept connected to mains at all times when it is not being used as an emergency backup unit to make sure that the batteries are charged and are available at full capacity when needed. Then this portable DC charger allows the site technicians to restore the DC power within no time.
The charger weighs approx 80kgs, and the batteries in total weigh 65kgs. Also, the four lithium battery modules can be easily unplugged and removed to make the unit even lighter when going up steps.
The battery modules can be reassembled and plugged in once in the substation in less than a minute. Once deployed the emergency DC will supply the critical load until the existing DC power can be put back into service. Once the emergency is over simply plug the unit into a 24V power and leave.
The emergency DC charger is available in 110V/24V and also 110V/48V models.
*Net weight equals approx 145kgs
The Magellan Emergency DC Charger is priced at $16,680. For more information or to order, email: sales@magellan-power.com.au.
Is your equipment ready for 2015?
Back-up power systems are a vital component of any modern substation, providing power to protection and control equipment in times of power loss. Failure to provide the back-up power to protection gear to clear a fault can be catastrophic.
The problem with batteries in back-up systems is that there is no way of assessing their health by visual inspection alone. Often a battery recently installed that looks perfect on the outside can be totally corroded inside. The battery charger also plays a big part in the reliability of the system. A badly regulated or badly filtered battery charger can damage or even explode a perfectly good battery in a matter of months, if not weeks. Metering on the DC systems can also be misleading. They may be showing the right values but in reality, the battery may be under or overcharged.
It is therefore essential that AC and DC systems are reliable and ready for action all the time, and this necessitates maintenance both for batteries and chargers.
