Magellan Power was engaged by Mia Mia – House in the Desert, a 91-room hotel located in Newman, Western Australia, to deliver a high-performance rooftop solar solution. Situated in the sun-rich Pilbara region, the client sought to capitalise on its natural solar advantage and drive down operational energy costs while reinforcing its sustainability credentials. Magellan Power brought its large-scale commercial solar array expertise to deliver a turnkey solution tailored to the hotel’s demands
Solutions
Magellan Power designed and installed a high-efficiency 100 kW rooftop solar array using Australian-made, commercial-grade solar panels customised for the Pilbara environment. Magellan Power’s project delivery encompassed full scope, from design through installation, with ongoing local service support.

Client Requirement
The client needed to upgrade their aging UPS infrastructure, which had reached the end of its service life. The new system had to fit within the tight spatial constraints of existing cabinets and improve onsite safety for personnel. Minimising installation costs and complexity was essential, as was enabling maintenance activities without requiring power interruptions or extended downtime.
RESULTS
Magellan Power’s seamless execution of the project delivered a completed solar array that generated significantly higher power than was forecasted. The client achieved a reduction in grid power usage by approximately 500-600 kWh per day, translating into substantial cost savings and improved sustainability. With payback projected at just 2.5 years, the investment will rapidly recover its capital cost, delivering long-term value as well as power generation that reduces overall impact on the environment.
