Magellan Power’s Brisbane Service Division successfully delivered a critical DC power upgrade for a long-term, returning client. The project involved replacing a 17-year old Magellan Power battery charger with our latest system, demonstrating both the longevity of Australian-made systems and the trust clients place in Magellan Power to support mission critical infrastructure over the long term.
Solutions
Magellan Power’s Service Division fully decommissioned the original, 17-year-old 24MCRII050 charger and installed the latest 4SMCRIII50 system. The scope included a brand-new enclosure, a replacement battery bank using Leoch 12V 200Ah VRLA batteries and the installation of a full Battery Monitoring System (BMS). The team also integrated Anderson plug connection kits to enable safe load and battery testing, as well as a new distribution board including one main load breaker, four load distribution breakers and two spare breakers to support future expansion. The project was delivered end-to-end, including installation, testing and commissioning.
Client Requirement
The client required the replacement of an ageing 24VDC 50A battery charger originally installed in 2008, while maintaining uninterrupted support for essential high voltage (HV) control equipment and site-wide control systems. The upgrade also needed to allow for improved monitoring, safer testing and future system expansion, while being delivered by a trusted provider with deep knowledge of the existing installation.
RESULTS:
The upgraded SMCRIII system now provides reliable, redundant DC power to critical HV control and site-wide control systems, significantly enhancing system resilience and maintainability. The successful replacement after 17 years of continuous service reinforces the durability of Magellan Power’s Australian-made solutions and the value of long-term service support. The client’s decision to return to Magellan Power is a clear testament to the company’s commitment to building equipment that lasts and standing behind it for life.
