Containerized Battery Backup System for Water Utility

Magellan Power have successfully designed and developed a containerized Battery Backup System for the principal supplier of water, wastewater and drainage services throughout the state of Western Australia.
The purpose of this project was to allow a Variable Speed Drive to ramp down in a controlled manner in the event of a power loss.
A pump trip scenario will occur when there is a power loss from the grid network which does not allow the VSD (Variable Speed Drive) to ramp down the pump to mitigate a pressure surge, leading to water hammer effect, which had the potential to damage the pipeline system.
