Driving Decarbonisation in the Pilbara
Magellan Power is proud to have recently been involved in the decarbonisation of an off-grid Pilbara Eco Resort!
The remote site was previously reliant solely on diesel generators. After a comprehensive site load study, Magellan delivered an innovative fully integrated containerised off-grid system that transitioned the resort to cleaner, more sustainable energy. The project’s goal: achieve 75% renewable energy penetration while ensuring reliable, safe and cost-effective power.
Our turnkey solution included:
- 680 kWh lithium battery storage housed in a purpose-built container with HVAC, fire detection and suppression systems and remote monitoring
- 175 kW east–west ground-mounted solar array
- Modular 180 kW inverter system for power conversion and distribution
- Repurposing of existing diesel generators for reliable backup
- Full design, mobilisation, installation, commissioning and decommissioning of outdated infrastructure
The result:
- 75% renewables fraction achieved
- 73,700 litres of diesel saved annually
- 197 tonnes of CO₂ emissions reduced per year
- $185,000 operating cost savings per annum
- Remote monitoring and ongoing local field support
This project demonstrates how remote operations can drastically reduce their reliance on diesel, cut costs and move closer to energy independence. For the eco resort, it means not only lowering its environmental footprint but also delivering a sustainable tourism experience that aligns with its mission of conservation and responsibility.
By combining solar generation, advanced energy storage and smart control systems, we’re helping businesses across Australia unlock new pathways to sustainability.
