Magellan Power Secures Strategic Investment from Viburnum Funds

March 4, 2026

Magellan Power is proud to announce a strategic investment from Viburnum Funds, marking an exciting new chapter in our 34-year journey as Australia’s leading power systems manufacturer.

This partnership accelerates our ability to deliver on our promise: scaling Australian-made industrial uninterruptible power systems (UPS), battery energy storage solutions and our pioneering 4R Battery Ecosystem (Repair, Refurbish, Repurpose, Recycle) across both domestic and international markets.

Scaling Australian Manufacturing

The investment strengthens our commitment to sovereign manufacturing and lifecycle-supported power systems. Our solutions are engineered for Australia’s toughest conditions and supported throughout their entire lifecycle, from commissioning through to predictive maintenance, upgrades and end-of-life battery management.

As part of our growth strategy, we will manufacture from our future 15,000-sqm facility at Trident Estate, expanding our capability to meet rising demand across mining, oil & gas, defence, utilities, transport and healthcare.

With operations in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney, Port Hedland and Newman, Magellan Power employs 85 Australians across engineering, manufacturing, R&D, quality assurance and field service.

Positioned for a High-Growth Market

Magellan Power operates in a global battery energy storage market forecast to exceed US$100 billion by 2032. Australia is experiencing substantial growth in installed battery capacity, reinforcing the importance of local innovation and manufacturing capability.

Founder and Managing Director Masoud Abshar will continue to lead the business, partnering with Viburnum as a minority investor to scale production, advance our technology pipeline and strengthen our national and international presence.

Masoud Abshar, Managing Director of Magellan Power, said:

Our partnership with Viburnum marks a pivotal step in accelerating Magellan’s national expansion and strengthening Australia’s sovereign energy capability. It enables us to respond decisively to the unprecedented demand for Australian-made power and battery storage solutions across mining, defence, utilities, transport and critical infrastructure sectors.

We are industrialising our production through advanced manufacturing systems, modular architecture and disciplined quality control. This transformation will significantly increase output, improve efficiency and further enhance reliability; without compromising the rugged performance standards our customers depend on in harsh Australian environments.

The result is more KARRI home energy storage systems, more community and industrial battery systems, more stand-alone power systems and more mission-critical UPS infrastructure; all engineered, assembled, tested and supported in Australia.

Importantly, this investment underpins our national footprint. With new facilities in Brisbane and Sydney, we are creating skilled local jobs, expanding service capability and ensuring customers across the country have faster access to Australian-made technology and lifetime support.

This is not simply company growth. It is the deliberate building of sovereign manufacturing capability, national resilience and long-term energy security. Every decision reinforces our commitment: ‘Built to Last, Serviced for Life, Made in Australia’.

The Western Australian Government has publicly recognised the importance of local battery manufacturing capability, with Premier Roger Cook visiting Magellan Power’s Bibra Lake facility last year and the State launching a $50-million program aimed to boost local battery manufacturing capability whilst reducing household energy costs.

This significant milestone in Magellan’s journey has been featured by leading national and industry publications, including The West Australian, Business News, PV Magazine and Renew Economy, reflecting the growing recognition of sovereign battery manufacturing capability and the company’s role in Australia’s evolving energy landscape.

Built to Last. Serviced for Life. Made in Australia.

Magellan Power remains committed to operating fully within the battery circular economy through our proprietary 4R Battery Ecosystem, ensuring products are supported across repair, refurbishment, repurposing and recycling. Magellan Power also delivers comprehensive long-term service, predictive maintenance and system upgrades, ensuring product longevity and strong customer retention.

With Viburnum’s strategic backing and continued leadership from our founding team, Magellan Power is poised for this next phase of national and international growth.
