Magellan Power wins Family Business Category in Rising Stars Awards

June 26, 2019

Australian manufacturer of Energy Storage systems Magellan Power has won the family business category in the WA Business News Rising Stars Awards.

Magellan Power has been in operation for more than 28 years, with 8 family members working within the business.

The company was founded by electronics engineer Masoud Abshar who started Magellan Power in 1991, after emigrating from England with his wife and family.

Since then the business has grown to be Australia’s largest manufacturer of back-up power systems, with Masoud’s daughters, son in laws, nephew, sister and wife as part of the team.

“We are a close family and it feels normal for us to work together. We each have our roles, and we all contribute in different ways,” said Mr Abshar.

The company has an exciting future, having developed and commercialised several renewable technologies in recent years, including Stand Alone Power Systems for remote areas, camera-based cloud detection equipment for Solar Energy plus utility scale and home Energy Storage systems.

Magellan is also part of the Lithium Valley Battery CRC, working on further developing the Lithium battery supply chain in Western Australia.

“The win recognises our hard work, not only as an Australian manufacturer, but also as a family. We are very proud and grateful for the chance to show others what Magellan is about,” he said.
